The 1918 influenza virus, the cause of one of history's most deadly epidemics, has been reconstructed and found to be a Bird Flu that jumped directly to humans, two teams of federal and university scientists announced yesterday.

It was the culmination of work that began a decade ago and involved fishing tiny fragments of the 1918 virus from snippets of lung tissue from two soldiers and an Alaskan woman who died in the 1918 pandemic. The soldiers' tissue had been saved in an Army pathology warehouse, and the woman had been buried in permanently frozen ground.

MITES - Any of about 20,000 species of tiny arthropod invertebrates belonging to the subclass Acari - sometimes Acarina, or Acarida, of the class Arachnida. Mites live in varied habitats: in brackish water, in fresh water, in hot springs, in soil, on plants, and as parasites on and in animals. Parasitic forms may live in the nasal passages, lungs, stomach, or deeper body tissues of animals. Some mites are carriers of human and animal diseases. Plant-feeding mites cause damage by feeding on leaf tissues or by transmitting viral diseases. Mites are small, often microscopic in size—the smallest being about 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) in length and the largest being about 6 mm (0.25 inch)—and they usually have four pairs of legs. In general, they breathe by means of tracheae, or air tubes; in many species, however, respiration takes place through the skin Fleas have been around for millions of years - a fossilized flea found in Australia is said to be 200 million years old. It does not differ significantly from today's fleas. Different species can be found from the Arctic Circle to the Arabian deserts - even penguins have fleas which counteract the cold by ensuring that their growth into adulthood coincides with the time when penguins are sitting firmly on their eggs, thereby keeping both fleas and their young in a warm environment! ALLERGIES - hypersensitive reaction by the body to foreign substances - antigens, that in similar amounts and circumstances are harmless within the bodies of other people. Forest Land - Forest covered with trees and undergrowth. Over 20% of the Earth's land-surface is forest, providing valuable oxygen, timber, and habitats for wildlife. Northern coniferous forests consist largely of pine, spruce, and firs.

Short-Wave Light and ultraviolet radiation from the sun are able to penetrate the atmosphere and warm the earth’s surface. This energy is re-radiated as infrared radiation, which, because of its longer wavelength, is absorbed by such substances as carbon dioxide, instead of passing through. The overall effect is that the average temperature of the earth and its atmosphere is increasing - the so-called Global Warming or ultimately the Global Ending Syndrome.

What is Bird Flu and Where does it come from?

Avian Flu is a virus carried by many birds in the wild, that are somewhat immune to its effect.

But it can kill domestic fowl who have not built up this immunity.

We can get from handling raw bird flesh. From handling contaminated bird faeces, that fell from the sky. Working with contaminated domestic fowl.

The present strain raging through some parts of the world's chickens and ducks is Codenamed H5N1.

It was first seen in Hong Kong in 1997, it was contained but has resurfaced, probably carried away by only one wild bird to other parts of Asia, and ultimately the whole planet.

This strain has now crossed over to infect Humans, and up to 200 have died.

Children and old people are particularly defenceless.

Tamiflu - The only Hope?

In the first few years after federal regulators approved the influenza-fighting pill Tamiflu in 1999, the drug suffered from lackluster sales and indifference from U.S. health officials more focused on creating new vaccines.

Now, demand for Tamiflu is outstripping supply.

The drug's sales have skyrocketed in recent months as a major U.S. vaccine supplier failed to meet half the nation’s needs and the World Health Organization, worried about the threat of a worldwide bird flu epidemic, urges governments to stockpile anti-viral drugs.

That's touched off a nasty dispute between two drug companies that are fighting for control of the pill’s growing profits — even as U.S. health experts fret about inadequate Tamiflu stockpiles and Third World countries threaten to ignore U.S. patents and make generic versions of the drug.

Tamiflu prevents the typical flu strains that occur every year from replicating in humans once a person is infected, shortening the illness' duration by two days while rendering its symptoms less severe.

The drug has never been tested on people infected with the bird flu that has swept through poultry populations in large swaths of Asia since 2003, killing at least 63 people.

But Tamiflu has showed promise in mice infected with that exotic flu strain, which health officials fear could spread globally, with disastrous results. Officials thus want to stockpile Tamiflu while they work to develop a bird flu vaccine.

"It appears that this is the only effective intervention we have once someone has been infected. It's the one treatment," said Jeffrey Levi, a policy analyst for Washington D.C.-based nonprofit Trust for America's Health. "The problem is that we don't have enough of it."

Tamiflu was invented in 1996 by scientists at Foster City-based Gilead Sciences Inc., which quickly sold all commercial rights and manufacturing responsibility in exchange for annual royalties to the Swiss giant Roche Holding AG.

Roche makes Tamiflu at its Basel, Switzerland plant and until last year, this sole source for the drug wasn’t a public health issue.

Sales of the prescription drug limped along at about $76 million in 2001 and $134 million in 2002 and were so lackluster that Gilead complained about Roche’s commitment to the drug.

"It has been a historically tough sell in a traditional flu market," said Sharon Seiler, an analyst for Punk, Ziegel & Co. "You need a prescription, you need to take it within 48 hours of symptoms and not all pharmacies stocked it."

But when the WHO in January 2004 urged the world to stockpile Tamiflu, sales skyrocketed. For the first half of this year, sales surged to $456 million.

Roche has doubled its Tamiflu manufacturing capacity in each of the last two years and plans a similar expansion next year, including manufacturing Tamiflu in some of its U.S. factories.

Still, orders are coming in faster than Roche can immediately fill.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt has called for a Tamiflu stockpile to treat 20 million Americans, yet there are only enough pills on hand to treat 2.3 million people. - CNN NEWS

Swiss pharmaceutical group Roche has asked generic drug firms to help speed up the manufacture of a key anti-viral ahead of a feared bird flu pandemic.

Demand has soared for the drug Tamiflu, which can fight the H5N1 avian flu strain causing concern at the moment.

Bird flu viruses do not usually affect humans, but there have been several human cases of  the infection since 1997, leaving scientists to believe that this once host-specific ailment has crossed species, mutating.

Influenza, A H5N1  virus –  is an influenza A virus sub-group that occurs mainly in birds. It was first isolated from birds, Terns,  in South Africa in 1961. Like all bird flu viruses, H5N1 virus circulates among birds worldwide, is very contagious among birds, and can be deadly.

Whilst it has killed people, and been contained, it is believed that should a person in the West, who has a simple cold, then catches, or is infected by this virus, a mutant super-flu bug could be created. Microbes, have the potential to evolve and therefore possibly mutate, at a rate 750,000 times greater than our own. It is hard for us to conceive how we can keep pace with them really.

Any Super-Flu bug could become far more contagious and it would be passed onto others at an alarming rate. Millions of Europeans could be at risk.

HUMAN INFLUENZA - also called grippe or flu, is an acute viral infection of the upper or lower respiratory tract that is marked by fever, chills, and a generalized feeling of weakness and pain in the muscles, together with varying degrees of soreness in the head and abdomen.

Influenza is caused by any of several strains of orthomyxo viruses, categorized as types A, B, and C. The type A virus is the most frequent cause of influenza; this type occurs in numerous strains that are differentiated on the basis of the viruses' surface proteins, their geographic origin, date of isolation, and other factors. The three major types of influenza viruses generally produce similar symptoms but are completely unrelated antigenically, so that infection with one type confers no immunity against the others.

Influenza A tends to occur in annual pandemics. The subtype of influenza A known as H2N2, or Asian flu, for instance, apparently began in East Asia early in 1957, and by midyear it had circled the globe. After 10 years of evolution that produced annual epidemics, the Asian flu disappeared in 1968, only to be replaced by a new influenza A subtype, H3N2.

Influenza  -  Several types of viruses cause this highly contagious disease, commonly called the flu. The viruses are spread from one person to another via airborne droplets released during coughing and sneezing. They lodge in the lungs and breathing passages, causing fever, chills, sore throat, coughing, headache, fatigue, and weakness. Most symptoms subside in several days, but complications, particularly pneumonia, can occur. Treatment consists of bed rest and plenty of fluids; antiviral drugs may be prescribed.

Vaccination to avoid infection is strongly recommended for people age 50 and older; people with heart disease, diabetes, or immune system problems; residents of nursing homes; family members and caregivers of such individuals; and health care workers. Unfortunately, the flu vaccine only prolution of a new strain can result in a worldwide epidemic. One of the worst such epidemics, the 1917-18 "Spanish flu," killed some 20 million people

Influenza may affect individuals of all ages, though the highest incidence of the disease is among children and young adults. Influenza is generally more frequent during the colder months of the year. The influenza infection is transmitted from person to person through the respiratory tract, by such means as inhalation of infected droplets resulting from coughing and sneezing. As the virus particles gain entrance to the body, they selectively attack and destroy the ciliated epithelial cells that line the upper respiratory tract, bronchial tubes, and trachea. The incubation period of the disease is one to two days, after which the onset of symptoms is abrupt, with sudden and distinct chills, fatigue, and muscular aches. The temperature rises rapidly to 38 to 40 °C (101 to 104 °F). A diffuse headache and severe muscular aches throughout the body are experienced, often accompanied by irritation or a sense of rawness in the throat. In three to four days the temperature begins to fall and the person begins to recover. Symptoms associated with respiratory tract infection, such as coughing and nasal discharge, become more prominent and may be accompanied by lingering feelings of weakness. Mortality from the disease is often high because so many people are infected. Death is caused, in most cases, by complications such as pneumonia or bronchitis, usually among older people who are weakened by other debilitating disorders.

The antiviral drug amantadine has a beneficial effect on cases of influenza involving the A virus type. A newer category of drugs, the neuraminidase inhibitors, was introduced in the late 1990s; these drugs inhibit both the influenza A and B viruses. Other than this, bed rest and the use of aspirin or other analgesics to control fever remain the standard treatment. Individual protection against influenza may be bolstered by injection of a vaccine containing two or more circulating influenza viruses. These viruses are produced in chick embryos and rendered non infective; standard commercial preparations ordinarily include the type B influenza virus and several of the A subtypes. Protection from one vaccination seldom lasts more than a year, and yearly vaccination may be recommended, particularly for those individuals who are unusually susceptible to influenza or whose weak condition could lead to serious complications in case of infection. Routine immunization in healthy people, however, is also recommended.

Influenza epidemics have a long history; the first clear description of one is perhaps that of the epidemic of 1610. The most severe outbreaks in modern times have been those of 1889–90 and 1918–19. The influenza epidemic of 1918–19 was the most destructive influenza outbreak in history and one of the most severe disease epidemics ever encountered. It is estimated that 25 million persons throughout the world died of the disease. Subsequent outbreaks of influenza have been much less severe.

Bird Flu Symptoms

Symptoms range from normal flu-like problems such as fever, coughs, sore throat, feeling weak and muscle aches. But these can progress to eye-infections, pneumonia, being unable to breath, onward to some organ failure and other infections. Once established in the body, our immune system would not be able to cope, and would be overwhelmed by the utter increasing number of viral microbes.

There is no vaccine.

We must ask if there is a fundamental difference between human flu, above, and bird flu. Essentially there are many different sub-groups of type A flu virus. These sub-groups differ because of certain proteins on the surface of the virus, namely hemagglutinin - HA,  and neuraminidase - NA, proteins. There are 16 different HA subtypes and 9 different NA subtypes of the type A virus. Many different permutations of HA and NA proteins, are possible. Each combination is part of the evolution of the virus and forms another different sub-group. All of these are found in the avian world.

However, when we talk about bird flu viruses per se, we are referring to those type A sub-groups that continue to occur mainly in birds. These do not generally infect humans, even though we know they could, and do. But as we know, birds of a feather flock together, so it is only because humans and most birds do not cohabit.

The WHO is to announce new research showing that the pattern of avian flu in northern Vietnam is consistent with human-to-human infection.

And when we talk about human flu viruses, we are referring to those sub-groups that occur commonly in humans. There are only three known subtypes of human flu viruses - H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2; it is likely that some genetic parts of current human flu A viruses, originally came from birds. Flu A viruses are constantly changing, and they might adapt over time to infect and spread among humans.

We might expect and have seen that bird-flu outbreaks might be more usual in some Far East countries, such as Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, but an outbreak of the highly contagious disease that has seemingly swept through some parts of Asia, has been confirmed in Japan.

The virus give flu-like symptoms, and occur naturally among birds. Wild birds worldwide carry the virus in their intestines, but generally do not get any ill-effect. However, bird flu is very contagious among birds, and will make the domesticated birds population very sick, eventually leading to death or euthanasia.

Distinguishing bird-flu from normal human flu, can only be done with laboratory tests, as symptoms of bird flu in humans have ranged from typical flu-like symptoms - fever, coughs, sore throat and aching muscles, eye infections, developing up to pneumonia, and other severe respiratory diseases - such as acute respiratory distress, combined with other severe life-threatening complications. Victims have generally been people who work amongst domestic fowl, like farmers and factory workers.

Like in humans,  infected birds shed the virus in their saliva, nasal secretions, and feces; other animals coming into contact with this, are susceptible to become infected. It is believed that most cases of bird flu infection in humans, have resulted from this close contact with infected poultry, or contaminated surfaces.

Studies suggest that the prescription medicines usual for human flu would work in preventing bird flu infection in humans. However, flu viruses, as in many these days, can become resistant to these drugs, so these medications may not always work.

A positive note with the contagion risk from bird flu is again normally low to most people, but only because the viruses occur mainly among birds and only usually infect humans, when they come into close contact with an infected bird.

The current outbreak of avian influenza A  - H5N1, among poultry in Asia is an example of a bird flu outbreak that has caused human infections and deaths. The flu spreads through a concentrated population of fowl and in such situations, people should avoid contact, and also should even be careful when handling and cooking poultry meat.

There currently is no vaccine to protect humans against the H5N1 virus that is being seen in Asia. However, vaccine development efforts are under way. Research studies to test a vaccine to protect humans against H5N1 virus began in April 2005. Researchers are also working on a vaccine against H9N2, another bird flu.

The Worst Case Scenario

We believe that it is only a matter of time before some microbe wipes out highly significant numbers of humans around the world. In theory 99% of humans could die.

What with a possible Asteroid attack, MRSA, AIDS, TB, Clostridium Difficile, a Flu epidemic, Terrorism, Wars, the people of Earth walk a fine line.

MUTATION  -  For a myriad of reasons any living creature, from a Group B streptococci to a blue-whale could be prone to mutate. Whatever it should mutate into, is a lottery to some extent, but whatever it is, whether droll or a disaster, it is a fact of life that it happens; a phenomenon.

Below is a real picture of a guy with SIX fingers on each hand. The combination perhaps, of the genes from both his parents that he inherited, that gave him a propensity to be different from the norm. By some fluke of nature he is different from about 99.999% of the rest of us.

Should he ever breed with a woman who also has extra digits, there would be an even greater propensity for their offspring to have twelve fingers. Should  these children then have more kids with other children with twelve fingers, a new species of human could evolve.

Mutation  -  A change in the hereditary material of the DNA of any organism, which results in some physical change in the organism or its offspring. Only a mutation in a germ cell is inherited by the offspring; a change in any other cell, the somatic cell, affects only those cells produced by division of the mutated cell. Mutations provide an important source of genetic variation in the population on which natural selection can act, which eventually results in the evolution of new specie types.

Mutations may occur quite by chance      - spontaneous mutations     -    or they may be caused by certain chemicals, ionizing radiation, such as X-rays, and even by ultraviolet light.

You heard it here first. Consider although MRSA microbes have been around for over fifty years, and we might wonder what exactly allowed them to mutate to be resistant to antibiotics, what about mobile phone radiation. With 35% of the population carrying MRSA in their noses, what effect might this, now everyday radiation have. Not only to any wayward microbes, but what about young men carrying their phones in their pockets close to their scrotum.

BBC NEWS Tuesday, 11 January, 2005, 07:48 GMT Parents should ensure their children use mobile phones only when absolutely necessary because of the potential health risks, an expert is warning.

ASTEROIDS - also called minor planet, or planetoid, any of a host of small rocky bodies, about 1,000 km or less in diameter, that orbit the Sun primarily between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It is because of their small size and large numbers relative to the nine major planets that asteroids are also called minor planets. The two designations are frequently used interchangeably, though dynamicists, astronomers who study individual objects with dynamically interesting orbits or groups of objects with similar orbital characteristics, generally use the term minor planet, whereas those who study the physical properties of such objects usually refer to them as asteroids. Lucifer - In Christian tradition, the leader of the angels expelled from heaven for rebelling against God. Known thereafter as Satan (Hebrew: adversary) or the Devil, he presides over the souls condemned to torment in Hell. He is identified with the serpent that tempted Eve (Genesis 3.1–6) and the great red dragon cast out of heaven by Michael (Revelation 12.3–9). The exact nature of Lucifer’s sin was much debated; the commonest view is that his sin was pride. Sahara desert Facts - The Sahara Desert is a great desert area, North Africa, the West portion of the broad belt of parched land that extends from the Atlantic Ocean eastward past the Red Sea to Iraq. The entire desert, the largest in the world, is about 1600 km wide and about 5000 km long from East to West. Three thousand acres of life-giving plants are still eaten away by some circumstance every hour of every day. That is FIVE ACRES at every sweep of this clock. - CAN YOU HELP? Greenhouse Effect - An effect occurring in the atmosphere because of the presence of certain gases - Greenhouse Gases - water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and nitrous oxide, that absorb infrared radiation. Forest Land - Forest covered with trees and undergrowth. Over 20% of the Earth's land-surface is forest, providing valuable oxygen, timber, and habitats for wildlife. Northern coniferous forests consist largely of pine, spruce, and firs. Anthrax is principally a disease of domesticated and wild mammals, particularly herbivorous animals, such as cattle, sheep, horses, mules, and goats. Humans become infected almost incidentally when brought into contact with diseased animals, which can include their flesh, bones, hides, hair and excrement, or anywhere the germ may be lurking.
The Taliban - Persian Tālebān - Students. Also spelled Taleban. An ultra conservative political and religious faction that emerged in Afghanistan in the mid 1990s following the withdrawal of Soviet troops, the collapse of Afghanistan's communist regime, and the subsequent breakdown in civil order. The faction took its name from its membership, which consisted largely of students trained in Madrasah's Islamic religious schools, that were established for Afghan refugees in the1980s in northern Pakistan World Trade Center - A complex of several buildings around a central plaza in New York City that in 2001 was the site of the deadliest terrorist attack in American history. The complex—located at the southwestern tip of Manhattan, near the shore of the Hudson River and a few blocks northwest of Wall Street—was built by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as a central facility for businesses and government agencies involved in international trade. Until the 2001 attack, it was notable for its huge twin towers, each of which had 110 stories. The roof of One World Trade Center reached to 1,368 feet (417 meters), and Two World Trade Center was 1,362 feet (415 meters) tall. Designed by Minoru Yamasaki and officially opened in 1972, the towers were the world's tallest buildings until surpassed in 1973 by the Sears Tower in Chicago. (See Researcher's Note: Heights of Buildings.) Each of the twin towers had 97 passenger elevators, 21,800 windows, and roughly an acre (0.4 hectare) of rentable space per floor. An observation deck was situated on the 107th floor of the south tower (Two World Trade Center), and a television-broadcasting mast 360 feet (110 meters) high was attached to the north tower (One World Trade Center). TERMITES - any of the cellulose-eating social insects that constitute the order Isoptera. Cellulose in this case refers to wood. Termites have for millions of years been eating the majority of fallen trees, dead trees and rotting trees, from all around the world. It is said that the world would be totally covered in a ten meter pile of rotting timber, if it was not for the Termite. BEDBUG - Any member of the approximately 75 species of nocturnal insects of the family Cimicidae - order Heteroptera, that feed by sucking the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals. The reddish brown, or mahogany adult is broad and flat. It is only 4 to 5 mm, less than 0.2 inch long. The greatly withered, scaly vestigial wings are inconspicuous and non-functioning. You know they are about, when you see you have mysterious bite marks - small red dots. You can also see small telltale black marks, on sheets and mattresses. Bedbugs also have a distinctive oily odor, that results from a secretion of scent from their stink glands. In general, they breathe by means of tracheae, or air tubes; in many species, however, respiration takes place through the skin Mosquito - A small flying biting insect that could be described as a type of Fly. It lives worldwide, especially in the tropics. It has long legs and a slender abdomen, Culex Forma. In most species the males feed on plant juices or nectar. The females puncture the skin with a long proboscis, to suck the blood of mammals, quite often transmitting serious diseases, including Malaria, Dengue Fever, Encephalitis and Yellow Fever. The mosquito is not strictly a parasite.
THE LOUSE - also called the Body Louse -Pediculus Humanus, one of the most common sucking lice, found wherever human beings live. There are two sub-species of the common human louse: Pediculus Humanus Capitis, the Head Louse, and P. Humanus Humanus, the body louse, or cootie. The body louse is an important carrier of epidemic typhus; other louse-borne human diseases are trench fever and relapsing fever Fleas have been around for millions of years - a fossilized flea found in Australia is said to be 200 million years old.

MALARIA - A serious, acute and chronic relapsing infection in humans, characterized by periodic attacks of chills and fever, anemia, enlargement of the spleen - splenomegaly, and often fatal complications. Malaria also is found in apes, monkeys, rats, birds, and reptiles. It is caused by various species of protozoa, a one-celled organism - called Sporozoans, that belong to the genus Plasmodium. These parasites are transmitted to humans by the bite of various species of mosquitoes belonging to the genus Anopheles .

The June Bug - Cotinus Nitida - Linnaeus - Really a Flying Beetle - " I'm coming to get you!! " - Cotinus Nitida - The June Bug, also called May Beetle, or July Bug - Any insect of the genus Phyllophaga, belonging to the widely distributed, plant-feeding subfamily Melolonthinae - family Scarabaeidae, order Coleoptera. These red-brown / green or even orange beetles commonly appear in the Northern Hemisphere during warm spring evenings and are attracted to lights. The heavy-bodied June beetles vary from 12 to 25 mm - 0.5 to 1 inch, and have shiny wing covers (elytra). They feed on foliage and flowers at night, sometimes causing considerable damage. June beetle larvae, called white grubs, are about 25 mm long and live in the soil. They can destroy crops, like, corn [maize], small grains, potatoes, strawberries, and they can kill lawns and pastures by severing the grasses from the roots.
TICK - A widely distributed parasitic arachnid - related to Spiders and Scorpions, that sucks the blood of mammals, reptiles and birds, and may transmit such diseases as Typhus, Lymes Disease and Relapsing Fever. Its round body can be as small as a millimeter, or up to 30 mm long, with eight bristly legs. After feeding, the adults drop off the host and lay eggs on the ground. The larvae attach themselves to a suitable victim, feed, then drop off and molt into nymphs, which repeat the procedure. They have been compared to being similar to the Mite. An insect is a six legged creature, but all of this sized organisms once came from the same ancestor. Meningitis is an infection of the clear plasma-like fluid of a person's spinal cord and the same fluid that surrounds the brain. Meningitis is sometimes referred to as Spinal Meningitis. Meningitis is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection; itis mean inflammation, so the infection causes an inflammation of these areas. MRSA - PLEASE NOTE THAT MRSA IS NOT A DISEASE. IT IS THE NAME OF A BACTERIA THAT WE NO LONGER HAVE AN ANTIBODY THAT CAN KILL IT. IF ALLOWED INTO THE BODY OF A MAMMAL, IT CAN BRING ON MANY PROBLEMS AND CONDITIONS. THESE CONDITIONS HAVE ALTERNATE NAMES AND SOMETIMES MRSA IS NOT EVEN MENTIONED. PREVIOUS TO THE MRSA STRAIN THESE CONDITIONS WERE CLEARED UP QUITE EASILY WITH PENICILLIN ETC. BUT NOT ANYMORE. READ ON! Asthma is not a new phenomenon, as its recent insurgence would suggest. - Asthma-like symptoms were first recorded around 3500 years ago in an Egyptian manuscript called the Ebers Papyrus. And a word with similar roots as Asthma was also seen in Homer's Iliad. The word comes from the Greek and means Labored Breathing. The word Asthma was first used to describe an illness 500 years later by the famous Greek physician, and father of Medicine, Hippocrates. The Romans also recorded this condition and used various remedies to try and cure it.
SMELLY FEET - Most of the body sweats to keep us cool, and help remove some waste products from the body. Every square cm of the sole of the foot and the palms of your hands have about over 500 sweat pores, totalling 250,000 little holes, that is more than other part of the body, even more that under the arm-pits. Allergy - An abnormal reaction by the body to certain substances, including pollen, dust, certain foods and drugs, fur, moulds, etc. Normally all foreign substances (antigens) entering the body are destroyed by antibodies. Allergic people, however, become hypersensitive to certain antigens (called allergens), so that whenever they are encountered in future they stimulate not only the normal antibody reaction but also the abnormal symptoms of the allergy, such as sneezing and skin rashes. Allergic conditions include hay fever, some forms of asthma and dermatitis, and urticaria. Treatment includes the use of antihistamines and corticosteroids and desensitization. CLONE - also spelled clon population of genetically identical cells or organisms that are derived originally from a single original cell or organism by asexual methods. Cloning is fundamental to most living things, since the body cells of plants and animals are clones ultimately derived from the mitosis of a single fertilized egg. More narrowly, a clone can be defined as an individual organism that was grown from a single body cell of its parent and that is genetically identical to it. STD's - These bacterial and viral infections are related to sex, but of course have historically been associated with oral-sex and the vagina. In most all cases though they can cause some form of bodily infection and are transmitted through some form of sex. HIV/ AIDS is also listed below. Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) can often be transmitted even though both partners firmly believe they are infection free. The incubation period of a disease, is the period of time between infection and the appearance of symptoms. So during the incubation period, partners can transfer a virus or bacteria without even knowing.
Hay fever An allergy to pollen, which leads to sneezing, a streaming nose, and inflamed eyes. Treatment involves taking antihistamines or, in severe cases, steroids. - ALLERGIES - hypersensitive reaction by the body to foreign substances - antigens, that in similar amounts and circumstances are harmless within the bodies of other people. Worms, some say, have been around in one form or shape for about 600 million years. We actually share some DNA with all worms. There are perhaps up to 35,000 different types of these legless invertebrates, that we call worms. Some scurry about on the surface of the land, some live just beneath, whilst others bury themselves deep into the Earth's surface. Many live in the sea, and some have been found deep down on the bottom. Some are so small you cannot see them with the naked-eye, others are so big, they could be snakes. An Earthworm can live for ten years, living and eating in our gardens. They have no eyes, or ears and never sleep. Pound for pound, as they are made of mostly muscle they can be 1,000 times stronger than the strongest man, so next time you call a person a worm, think. Clostridium Difficile, is now recognized as the chief cause of HAI - Diarrhea in the US and Europe, and not only in hospitals but also in nursing homes and other facilities for long term care. Initial recognition of this disease began in the 1970s, with reports of a serious, sometimes lethal colitis, characterized by the formation of pseudo-membranous plaques. The cause was identified as Clostridium Difficile in 1978.  STARVING WORLD OF FAMINE - But something can be done; something that would not only help millions of Africa's starving impoverished citizens; not only help facilitate a world financial resurgence but also create a new global environment that might save humanity. It would cost nothing.
The human papilloma virus - HPV, causes several different types of warts, which are the most common type of skin infection. In some cases, the HPV virus dies within 1 or 2 years, and warts simply disappear. Verrucas, also called Warts, well-defined small growth of varying shape on the skin surface, caused by a virus. The wart is composed of an abnormal proliferation of cells of the epidermis; the overproduction of these cells is caused by the viral infection. The most common type of wart is a round, raised lesion having a dry and rough surface; flat or threadlike lesions are also seen. Warts are usually painless, except for those in pressure areas, such as the plantar warts, or Verrucas, that occur on the sole of the foot. They may occur as isolated lesions or grow profusely, especially in moist regions of the body surface. TRAINING YOUR BIG DOG - How To Train Your Big Dog LISTEN TO VIRGIN RADIO UK - CLICK HERE Huntington's Disease is due to a dominant and faulty genetic disorder on chromosome 4.  The consequence of the fault with this gene starts around or just before middle age,  and leads to a gradual physical, mental and emotional change in its victim. Huntington's Disease was named after the American, Dr. George Huntington, as in 1872 he was the first person to document an accurate description of the symptoms and the route of the disease. - The loss of these cells causes intense symptoms and eventually death. As the condition advances, it becomes more difficult for the patient to walk and speak. Memory and intellectual functions continue to decline, until the end. By far of the majority of patients are placed in hospices for special care.
